Resident DJ at Copenhagen’s highly respected nightclub “Culture Box” and founder of What Happens Music, underground music stalwart Tim Andresen is definitely a little underrated as a composer and producer. His latest EP Blue Sun is typical of Tim’s uncluttered, clean production style which sits somewhere between Deep House and melodic/dub techno in its aesthetic. Title track “Blue Sun” softly layers warm pads over an unfussy drum pattern, revealing itself like a breaking dawn, punctuated by rhythmic synths and meditative Japanese shamisen notes. “Under The Moon” edges a little closer toward techno, building up an intoxicating groove over a one-note baseline. “Purple Sky” returns to a more contemplative state, evoking that moment of stillness just before the sun sets over the ocean.
A dreamy and highly introspective little 3 tracker, I imagine that this release will slip under the radar of all but the most meticulous listener due its understated, peaceful nature. This record isn’t for everyone; it’s not even for most electronic music fans. It’s the kind of subtle beauty that eventually finds you only when you’re ready to receive it. To me that personal, mercurial connection makes this kind of record incredibly rare and special.
