Four tracks of peak time underground deepness here courtesy of Scottish producer Wallace, ranging from deep house to garage and deep tech.

Lead track and the most “housey” on the EP, “Papertrip,” got a great reception on its release earlier this year. It rolls along driven by a clipped single note stab that’s part percussion, part chord and it’s drenched in a single sustained string chord for maximum tension before doing a nicely twisted upwards pitch warp on the breakdown. Musically it’s really simple, but each part performs its role perfectly and the arrangement is expertly executed.

“BB” and “The Function” take two different garage-based approaches: the former is all raw, 4/4 garage beats, overdrive Korg M1-ish key stabs and lots of FX, the later made of equally gritty, skippy garage drums and assorted synth and sample sound beds and stabs.

Final track “Backwaters” is a moody, rolling 130 bpm deep house/deep tech cut with a Rhodes breakdown that allows for the briefest moments of euphoria before heading back into its stripped back groove. Super funky, high-end fresh beats and bass.
