Spring Awakening Moving To The South Side?

With Soldier Field occupied by the Copa America Centenario soccer tournament, Spring Awakening may be moving to the home of the Chosen Few Picnic?

Due to a rather gnarly scheduling conflict, React presents’ Spring Awakening festival may be moving to the South Side home of the Chosen Few Picnic this year.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Spring Awakening’s normal venue – Soldier Field, also home of the Chicago Bears – will be playing host to Copa America Centenario, a major soccer tournament taking place in several cities across the United States in June. Soldier Field itself will host games on June 5, June 7, June 10 and June 22.

SFX Entertainment, the festival’s organizer, has been conditionally approved for a permit at Jackson Park in the Woodlawn community, Park District spokeswoman Jessica Maxey-Faulkner said.

Jackson Park (located at 6401 S. Stony Island Ave on the South Side) is best known in our scene as the home of the Chosen Few Picnic, the annual July celebration of old school House Music and disco from the Chosen Few DJ crew. Last July 4 the Chosen Few celebrated their 25th anniversary.

React’s parent company, SFX Entertainment, petitioned the courts for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization on Monday, February 1 2016. SFX has been provided financing by a committee of bondholders however and normal festival operations are expected to continue.
