Chicago’s popular nightclub The Mid will be closing its doors at 306 N. Halsted in February 2019 after nearly 9 years of bringing top EDM stars to the main stage as well as supporting the worldwide and Chicago underground.

A statement on The Mid’s Facebook page made the announcement today attributing the closing to “recent expansion in the West Loop and Fulton Market District.”

“Unfortunately, the time has come where the MID’s doors will be closing on February 5, 2019,” a statement from Lucas King and Nick Karounos says. “These last remaining months will be a celebration of the past and a toast to the future. We want to thank all the fans, artists, employees, agents, managers, and promoters who have supported us throughout this era. As a token of our appreciation, we are putting together some very special events leading up to that “One Last Song.” It’s been an incredible run to say the least but now it’s time to turn the page as we raise our glasses to what will be the end of an era, and the beginning of our next chapter.”

The Mid will host a number of “closing parties” under the banner of “One Last Song.”

Just last week 5 Mag asked who would want to run a club in Chicago’s increasingly hostile environment; this is at least a partial answer.

In February 2019, popular Chicago nightclub the MID, located at 306 N Halsted, will officially close its doors due to recent expansion in the West Loop and Fulton Market District.

Until then, the MID will host a number of special closing parties to bring everyone together for “One Last Song.” While the Co-Founders/ Co-Owners of the nightclub Lucas King and Nick Karounos are sad to say goodbye, they look forward to opening new venues in Chicago in the near future.

Ever since the MID opened in 2010, the venue hosted DJs/producers, singers, rappers, and bands from around the world, showcasing a plethora of genres including house, techno, hip-hop, juke, big room, dubstep, drum and bass, and much more. From the likes of Calvin Harris, Kaskade and Adam Beyer, to Derrick Carter, Green Velvet, Laurent Garnier, Ice Cube, and The Hot Mix 5 — there’s no major DJ that came up during the last decade or so who hasn’t performed at the MID. In 2013, DJ Mag ranked the MID at #40 in the world, and included the club in their “Top 100” club list for three years overall.

Throughout the years, the MID has produced some of the most memorable nights in Chicago nightlife — The Blackhawks celebrated their Stanley Cup Championship with a special performance by Tiesto, legendary DJs/producers Dubfire and Sharam reunited to perform as Deep Dish for the first time in years, Claude Von Stroke and Green Velvet played a special back-to-back set that resulted in the supergroup known today as Get Real, a special B2B with Skrillex, Diplo and Hardwell during one of the many Lollapalooza after parties, in addition to Skrillex’s first ever Chicago show — just to name a few.

We encourage fans to prepare for the final countdown to “One Last Song” as a full list of official closing parties will be revealed very soon. And stay tuned for Chicago’s brand-new venue announcements on the horizon.
