Just one day after announcing the death of producer/DJ Paul Trouble Anderson to cancer, it is with sorrow that we must now do the same about the much beloved Chicago promoter/producer/DJ Scott Song.

Update: a GoFundMe campaign has been set up by Team Livesong (Colette, Erick, Heather, Rob, and Alicia) and the MATERIAL family. All money raised will go directly to Scott’s family to help with funeral and memorial arrangements.

Scott had been battling a rare blood disorder called Aplastic Anemia for 7 years, but he had the ultimate fighting spirit within him: “It’s coming up on 6 years and my personal mantra throughout this entire process has been a quote from one of my all time favorite people, coach Jim Valvano, ‘Don’t give up, don’t EVER give up.'”

Scott founded “Livesong” in 2013, which served as a platform to financially aid him after his diagnosis as well as to support others. Throughout those years there have been several benefits to aid him in his battle, featuring both close friends and iconic Chicago DJs such as Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Honey Dijon, Gene Farris, DJ Heather, Colette and Iz & Diz. His Facebook wall is filled with stories, quotes and photos (some of which we posted here) about Scott’s insane sense of humor, his unending loyalty and most of all his strength in the midst of such a crippling disease.

In one post Scott made in 2013 he states: “I made 3 resolutions for 2013. Stay alive. Stay positive. Try to take a moment everyday to cry & laugh with everything inside of me. I’ve never been this close to death. I’ve never felt so alive!”

Scott Song fought with grace, humor and dignity. He will be in our hearts forever.
