Shipping rates for retail Media Mail packages shipped from within the United States are going up for the second time in 2024 following guidance from the US Postal System (USPS).
According to the the latest price booklet published by the USPS, the cost of a Media Mail package weighing one pound or less is now $4.63. This is an increase of $0.50 from the price a week ago. The two pound rate is $5.38 (up $0.51), three pounds increased from $5.61 to $6.13 and so on.
The new rate is effective July 14 2024 — it’s in effect right now.
Media Mail is commonly used for shipping physical media, including records. An increase in price likely effects costs for record buyers and sellers everywhere in the United States.
This post is not deja vu: this is the second rate increase in Media Mail in 2024. On January 21, 2024 the one pound rate increased 5% from $3.92. Effectively, the price for a one pound package has increased 18% since December 2023.
The new rate card for Media Mail rates is published below (click to enlarge or right click to save, or download this PDF from the USPS site; the rates for retail Media Mail are published on page 9).
