Lovelee Dae: Seth Troxler & Franck Roger revamp the ’90s Blaze classic

Hard to pass on some records up when you see certain names in the racks and a release from Blaze in new packaging should stop you in your tracks. It’s not new music, but a set of new remixes of arguably one of Kevin Hedge and Josh Milan’s best and most enduring tracks, “Lovelee Dae,” mixed by Franck Roger and Seth Troxler. That’s quite a roster and it’s not disappointing: Slip N Slide (via Defected) manages the neat feat of making a release that should make old heads and new ones light up with the reissue of this nearly 30 year old classic.

Seth Troxler’s remix is heavily dubby with a light touch — a carousel of spinning lights that gives you a bit of a contact high from extended exposure. Franck Roger digs his fingers into the dirt to lift the original out of the ’90s and hurl it into 2024. There’s probably nothing in his mix that couldn’t have been done 25 years ago — there’s a sense of fidelity to it, but it’s a new take. The drums hit crisp and the production quality is stellar.

On the flip side is the original — and it’s lovely to listen to after all this time — as well as the 20:20 Vision Ralph Lawson/Carl Finlow remix from the 1998 release. You could make a pretty mean line-up for a dayparty out of all the people who have remixed “Lovelee Dae” over the years; this is a credible addition to the list.
