Nice to hear a varied five-tracker where all the tunes are decent, albeit in quite different ways. Japanese producer BRISA’s Stir EP kicks off with “Stir” featuring Turbojazz, a busy but expertly put-together 4/4 jam with Kerri Chandler-esque stabs and a slightly soulful house feel complete with a jazzy keys solo. Detroiter Jon Dixon keeps the stabs and chords, polishes up the soft edges and creates a clean, glistening, more futuristic and less soulful house remix that also works well.

B1 Reverie is a broken beat jazz-ish tune á la 4Hero which Byron The Aquarius remixes for the B2, upping the tempo and fuzzing things up nicely, putting light percolating percussion far back in the mix and generating some kind of alchemical rhythmic interaction between the bass and drums. The result is a tripped-out, slightly edgy narco-house jam with a heavy atmosphere that absolutely motors along.

The final track “Flux” is mid-tempo house, a rubber-bass, space-age, gamer-funk Balearic disco thudder that’s entirely different from the rest of the EP and a serious jam in its own right too.
