Simon and Robin Lee have made their career as Faze Action primarily as DJs, but their recorded work has touched on elements of disco, of Balearic and of electro (the good kind). All three are distilled and mixed together into an aromatic blend on “Vamos Pintar” (aka “Let’s Paint”), a collaboration with Brazilian singer and songwriter Nina Miranda. Faze Action bring a sunny and uplifting vibe with chords that sound like they were confiscated from Harold Faltermeyer’s Jupiter 8. Miranda (I would guess it’s Miranda’s contribution given her musical CV) adds something like a freestyle bump, all of it wrapped up in a sleek, contemporary sheath. Hot stuff!
The EP is three mixes deep and features Max Essa with a thick and lugubrious “Slo Mo Bubble” mix and an extended club jam. The Paradise 90 dub (by I think Faze Action themselves) is fucking incredible – a bounce off the walls and scrape ’em off the ceiling jam.
