It’s dangerous to put two volatile elements together and madness to put this out. Zed Bias takes a spin at remixing “Kazan,” the 3rd track on KiNK’s 2023 release For The People which was also Hypercolour’s landmark 100th release.

The original was pure KiNK — a buzzy techno banger made out of the shell of dead androids and Jawa junk guns. I’d recommend listening to it, and then to Zed Bias’ remix, particularly if you have an interest in production and remixing tracks. Zed Bias manages to create something at once recognizable and distinct, transplanting the flora of KiNK’s metal menagerie into a new pot.

The UK Garage legend lets it churn for awhile, giving DJs what feels like a super long runway to get into the mix. With an arpeggio that rolls like a escalator that goes on forever, he teases it for a sec before hitting you with a bass rush and vocals that sound like they’re punched up from a public terminal, spiraling and wrapping themselves around the bass groove.

What’s interesting is you can stop this track at almost any point and pick it back up; or mix out quick and mix back in because that spiraling vocal gives you endless opportunities to bring it back at almost any point. You can play it as it is or treat this almost like a DJ tool with some interesting possibilities.

There are no other remixes, no other edits: just 4 minutes and 57 seconds of trippy DJ silly putty to play with.
