You can listen to certain tracks and you just know you have about 100 records in common with the character who made it. James Welsh has either ripped off my crate or we’re blood brothers from other mothers because his cuts sound so much like everything I love it’s uncanny.
Aggro house that’s heavier than lead, “Man & Minion” is the title track of the next badass EP from Welsh on Kneaded Pains. Welsh drops a deceptively sweet-sounding vocal in a grinder of stabs and stainless steel percussion. You can pick your own “sounds like” description for this one — it’s like taking the best of thirty years of underground dancefloor killers, chopping them up and putting them back together in a vaguely familiar but unrecognizable form. The B side “Big Lanyard” uses the same sound palette for a more uptempo reboot.
