This is the second EP that Solid Gold Playaz signed to Freerange for release in 2021. Unfortunately Next To Me is now a posthumous release: half of the Midwest duo, Kenny Gino, passed away in July, which we found out when someone sent us a funeral home obituary just after James Duncan had reviewed that first Freerange EP, Mind In A Daze.
This is hopefully not the last word — there are too many great Solid Gold Playaz tracks out there that people don’t know about. Next To Me is made up of four tracks of blindingly brilliant soul, from the smooth title track to the full-on funk jam “Who’s Playin For Ya.”
