This is nothing if not a full body experience. Kléo is a French-born artist now living in Amsterdam, and makes acid tracks that slap with the best that ever came from one of the foundational acid cities. The Acid Coolada EP was released on vinyl back in February, appearing now a digital release with a slew of new remixes.

The original mixes of “Sand Waves” and the title track are included here and with Trinidadian Deep’s remix are the three to quick-save. “Acid Coolada” is a stomping acid track with jackhammer hi hats and turbocharged claps. You’ve heard this a few times and it’s done better than most, but then a wave of kaleidoscope synths introduce a virtuoso piano solo that shouldn’t work but does. The keys were recorded live by Dion Groebe and “Acid Coolada” goes instantly from a great new track in a long tradition to something that stands out strong against the rest.

The Rhodes or Rhodes-a-like makes a different sort of appearance on “Sand Wave,” a more chill and cosmic track with old school sci-fi theremins and shimmering psychedelia. It’s a big sloppy cosmic opus, something like nu jazz meets deep house meets acid meets ’70 drive-in sci-fi movie soundtracks.

Remixes exclusive to the digital release originate from the mind and spirit of Trinidadian Deep, Dionisos, MaSpaventi and DJ Deckwitz, but it was the “Trinidadian Deep Acid Deep Remix” that stands out the most. Soft pads, a pulse of a bassline and a twitchy acid pattern build the architecture for a elevated, mind-miles-high-in-the-sky vibe. Never heard Trinidadian Deep slap acid like this. I apologize, Mr. Deep, for I was not familiar with your game.
