Matthias Heilbronn moved from Germany to New York City at the perfect time to be in the perfect place to carve out a niche in house music history. He worked with pretty much everyone, from François K. and Todd Terry to Frankie Knuckles and Tommy Musto and in the process compiled a huge discography, a number that sits just shy of 800 on Discogs. The real number is higher.

Here he teams up with Peppermint Jam (which released his “Funky Shit” back in ’98 on a split single with Boris Dlugosch and Michi Lange’s B.M.R.) on “Something,” featuring vocalist Monique Bingham. It’s instant sample-bait and an irresistible impulse buy the minute you hear Bingham spit out the lyric “I can’t believe what I found/You’re the deepest motherfucker around.” Amazing. Huge remixes from PepJam’s Mousse T.
