Whenever I have an idea for something, I look up Peter Croce. I don’t know why, we’ve never personally met but the guy is a human dynamo and I respect anyone who without the grace of a million dollar inheritance or the connections that come from it is willing to put their shoulder into it and try to build something that is worth something more.

The bandcamp for Peter’s label Rocksteady Disco is one of my constant sources for inspiration — the quantity of good records goes back years, and you can pull out any of them at any time and listen fearlessly.

But if you go there now you’ll find more treasure than ever. The Social Distance Edits collection is Peter’s response to the coronavirus lockdown, and for fans and DJs alike this is more than just a “bandcamp find” — it’s the fucking motherlode. No less than 25 edits are compiled from Peter’s personal stash, played at parties and radio shows in the six years leading up to quarantine. The range here — both of source material and what Peter does with them — is, to coin an awkward but appropriate term, drool-inducing.

Peter wrote pretty extensive digital liner notes for each of these, which I’d recommend checking out if you like to learn about the music that you play. He’s also preserved the original listings as much as possible. Material here ranges from serious disco thumpers to hip-rockin’ latin swing, from well-known genre standards to fairly obscure records I for one am slightly ashamed to say I’d never heard before.

These 25 tracks are collected together for a true “name your own” price, which is huge. This might not be up there forever so I would suggest getting on that shit.
