At a time when most labels were retracting, cutting back, auditing their processes to ensure that the cost of music didn’t exceed their profit, Purple Music has been on an expansion spree, building out a label that was already one of the best for soulful house and club music in Europe. Quite a few legendary artists are almost “house” artists for the label at this point, and they seem to spend an inordinate amount of time sorting through submissions and demos to find the next diamond in the rough as well. “Something” is the best recording yet from Ricky “Birickyno” (his quotes, I haven’t the faintest idea what they mean). With an energetic shuffle and lyrics that are spit out at a breakneck pace, it manages to fuse a flawless musicality with a sense of spontaneity. “Something” feels as if it were improvised on the spot, a welcome departure from the epidemic of overproduced tracks that have infected far too many soulful house tracks in the last decade. The shimmering keys by Nico Pistolesi really make this shine.

Hi 5magazine!
Birickyno is my nickname …. in Italy the word “Birichino” is the translation of mischievous/rascal/naughty and inside this word there is the word Ricky ….. I have always given this nickname because when I started to to make the Dj (since 1984) I was very young and I always had a jeans jacket and a fluffy hat π
Thank you for your review and for your support!
A greeting
Ricky
