This is as good as it gets, and if the names on the label look familiar, that’s because they are. Tru Faith and About 2 shared several members and released a slew of UK Garage and 2step records in the late 1990s to mid ’00s — a weird single-sided record called “Misled” from About 2 featuring Anita Kelsey is one of my favorite 2step white labels from that era. And Tru Faith you most certainly know from the Tru Faith & Dub Conspiracy smash on Positiva called “Freak Like Me” that went ballistic on the charts (UK #12 and UK Dance #1) around 2000.

They, or him, or them or some of them are apparently back in the studio and banging out tunes like they never stopped. If they were living in a cave or a desert island, they had pretty good internet as Tru Faith’s “Myself” hits the vein in line with the best of what’s going around as “garage house” these days — just a pinch and a snort of a really heady blend. About 2’s “Beautiful” sounds a bit more vintage in parts but with hits that sizzle and sweeps over a familiar six word refrain. These guys just took the two best bombs in their case, put them on record and will let the Lord sort it out. Gotta respect that.
