They say it’s the first and swear it’s the only time it will happen: two legendary DJ crews from Chicago house and Chicago radio history will be teaming up for the last drive-in of the year at SeatGeek Stadium in suburban Bridgeview.
Julian’s House Party: Legends in the Mix is taking place on this Saturday June 5 at 7000 S. Harlem in Bridgeview. The show will feature the original Hot Mix 5 DJs (Farley Jackmaster Funk, Mickey “Mixin'” Oliver, Ralphi Rosario and Kenny Jason) and the original B96 Mixmasters (Julian “Jumpin” Perez, Bad Boy Bill, Frankie “Hollywood’ Rodriguez, Tim “Spinnin'” Schommer and Brian “Hitmix” Middleton) on the same stage.
(Those well versed in Chicago house history are firing up their quote tweets to point out that there is huge overlap between the personnel of the two crews, though short of having DJs play double sets “representing” each side, they’ve handled the attributions pretty well.)
Additional guests and preformers include Safire, Latin freestyle group TKA, legendary Chicago house vocalists Curtis McClain (Ten City) and Chuck Roberts, Dino Latino, Gino “Rockin” Romo and original WBMX host Armando Rivera with B96’s Jessica Rodriguez.
“This is the first and last time that both teams will perform together,” Perez said in a statement. “It’s such an honor to bring them to SeatGeek Stadium. These two DJ teams, of which I am proud of having been a part of, changed the course of radio, music, and DJing forever! People know about these two legendary DJ teams because of their mega-successful radio shows and their off-the-air mix tapes that people bought, copied and sent all over the world.”
The event takes place on Saturday June 5, gates open at 3pm and the show starts at 4pm. Tickets are available at julianjumpinperez.com.
