Chicago’s Hot Mix 5 are an essential part of dance music history, having carried the sound far beyond what WBMX’s wattage could reach. The Saturday Night Live Ain’t No Jive mix show is namechecked first and foremost by practically every DJ who grew up in the 1980s. It’s still common some 30 years later to see records cited as “WBMX classics,” associated not with the label or even the artist but with their first widespread exposure in the United States by the Hot Mix 5 DJ crew.

And count your blessings because they’re back for a Saturday night fantasyland at Concord Music Hall this Saturday, November 21 2015 with Farley Jackmaster Funk, Mickey Mixin Oliver, Kenny Jammin Jason, Julian Jumpin Perez and Scott Silz, with special guest Tim Spinnin Schommer and special guest MC Czarina from 5 Magazine.
