Reel People and Tony Humphries will be headlining the 2019 Chicago House Music Festival on Saturday, May 25 2019. This fourth annual edition of Chicago’s hometown (and free) house music festival will be taking place at at Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Downtown Chicago’s Millennium Park. The Chicago House Music Conference and Festival are presented by the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.
Once again, the Chicago House Music Conference will set the table for a weekend of outstanding outdoor events. The conference caters to DJs, musicians and other industry. The Chicago House Music Conference is Thursday May 23 2019 at the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington Street) from 6pm to 9pm.
Friday May 24 2019 sees a fascinating blend of jazz and house music as Orbert Davis’ Chicago Jazz Philharmonic features Chicago House Music pioneer Marshall Jefferson presenting the Chicago House Symphony. The concert begins at 6:30pm in Pritzker Pavilion and celebrates Chicago’s place in musical history in the context of jazz and house music. There will also be an award honoring Marshall Jefferson and Chip E for their influential work establishing house music as an independent genre and carrying the sound to the rest of the world. (Both Chip and Marshall played at 5 Mag and Spybar’s Classic Christmas event in December 2018; we’re glad to see the red carpet come out for two giants of our city’s history and house music history as a whole.)
Saturday May 25 is the Chicago House Music Festival at Pritzker Pavilion featuring London’s Reel People, legendary DJ and producer Tony Humphries, Chicago’s Gene Hunt, Mark Grusane and First Lady and more to be announced. There will be family activities, a House Dance Summit and multiple DJ stages throughout Millennium Park, and aftersets will be taking place around the city after the sun goes down.
The full schedule with many more acts is coming this Spring. Watch this space.
