Four pivotal house music and techno artists will be participating in an artist-to-artist talk on the “untold story of techno’s roots” during the week of Movement Festival 2025.

“Post-Disco To Pre-Techno: Artist To Artist Talk” will be held on Thursday, May 22 2025. The event is being held in Detroit from 5pm to 8pm with the panel discussion from 7pm to 8pm. Admission is free and the specific location will be disclosed upon your RSVP for the event.

Panelists include:

Norm Talley
✳ Delano Smith
✳ Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale
Kai Alcé (moderator)

The 50 minute talk “will explore how young promoters and DJs collaborated to showcase their mixing skills and sound systems, drawing larger audiences and establishing Detroit as an epicenter of innovative dance music. A 10-15 minute Q&A session will follow, allowing attendees to engage directly with these foundational artists.”

“Before techno gained global recognition, Detroit’s youth were creating a musical revolution in high school clubs and neighborhood venues throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s. This panel brings together the originators who lived this history, offering attendees a rare glimpse into the creative rivalry and cultural innovation that transformed disco, new wave, and progressive sounds into what would eventually become techno.”

The event also serves as an activation for producer Scott Grooves’ contemporary art exhibition under the name “SG Art,” with music by DJ Insane Who Sane.

The event is sponsored by Blast Radio, Mean Red Productions and VHE Art. RSVP is available at lu.ma/6gfb1jgc.
