Glitterbox has announced Legacy, a new album from legendary house music vocalist Kathy Brown, with all proceeds to support the singer’s battle against cancer.
Kathy Brown’s family announced in January that the vocalist had been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and that it had spread to her brain. A (still active) GoFundMe campaign was organized by Brown’s daughter and has raised $33,000 to date.
Legacy features 19 tracks including 4 new remixes from DJ Spen & Reelsoul, Moplen, Michael Gray and Sophie Lloyd (the tracklist is below). The impetus of the album comes from Brown’s desire “to have a body of work in one place,” according to a Seamus Haji, A&R manager at Defected.
“Having dedicated my entire life to music — and specifically house music — I want to ensure that my legacy as one of the pivotal figures in the movement is set in stone, hence the title of this historic album which brings together some of my most important releases along with several brand new remixes,” Brown said in a statement. “None of us can live forever, but some of us are fortunate enough to create a body of work that will endure long after we are no longer physically present on this Earth.”
All label profits from the album will go to Kathy Brown and her fight against cancer. A sampler from album was released on July 3; the full album is out July 19 2024.
