A crowdfunding initiative to benefit the late, great Phil Asher’s son has more than doubled its goal of £10,000 in the first 48 hours.

The outpouring of support follows the sudden death of Phil Asher on January 22, 2021. The electronic music producer made a significant mark in the fields of soulful house, broken beat, deep house — and especially in people’s lives.

“In lieu of floral tributes, Phil’s family & friends respectfully request that anyone who wishes to honour PHLASH is invited to make a contribution to The Marvin Jupiter Asher Fund,” the crowdsourcing page on GoFundMe reads. “In keeping with Phil’s humble, understated nature, it is only now that we begin to fully appreciate the impact his spirit and music has had upon on us all. The overwhelming outpouring of love and tributes that have emerged following the news of his death suggest that his reach was far greater than any of us ever imagined.”

“Phil was incredibly proud of his son Marvin and his music and production under NGC and the Xutians. With this in mind his close friends feel that the best way to honour PHLASH’s memory is through this fund.”

The comments are filled with memories of Phil Asher’s kindness, in record stores, in clubs and sometimes in the street.

“He’ll be looking down on this with the biggest smile. This recognition would mean so much more to him than the royalties and crumbs off the table from the industry that never came in his lifetime. This is real love from the ones he made the music for,” organizer Roy Marsh added in an update.
