West Side is one of the lesser-known labels in Victor Simonelli‘s portfolio. As with most of his record imprints, the catalog is loaded with productions from the owner’s almost inexhaustible spirit and production output, perhaps distinguished from the others here and there by a bit of a Latin swing.
Tracks From The Other Side boasts it’s “21 years in the making” as part of its title, and I don’t think Simonelli is joking. The liner notes claim this was “started in 1997.” I think you can hear it in some of these tracks – the Club Mix of “Soft And Sweet” has a stripped down and elementary feel to it, which does nothing to diminish the virtuoso keyboard work that lifts this up into the stratosphere.
