Killer Reissue of Ron Trent’s Modern Classic “Jazz It Up”

This is what was really going on while we were wasting our time with minimal techno and filtered disco.

It’s exceptionally rare to see a somewhat recent record fetch the prices collectors are offering and discogs gougers are selling for 2008 editions of Ron Trent‘s Jazz It Up. This isn’t for a white label, just the standard-issue Future Vision release. But there’s nothing standard about either of the tracks on Jazz It Up. “Sweet Chocolate” manages to simply exceed the limits that time and custom have assigned to house music. Virtuoso keys, virtuoso sax and brass and drums so warm they radiate heat through the grooves make this one of the best tracks of the ’00s. The only criticism I can muster? The reissue doesn’t reproduce that iconic Future Vision astronaut with the mic head and boom box in tow. This is what was going on while we were wasting our time with minimal techno and filtered disco.
