This record isn’t a house release, but if you can find a way to work it into a house set, I bet it would provide a few minutes of ’70s Latin psychedelic magic for your dance floor. It’s two tracks — “Terramoto” and “Magic Mushroom World” — taken from the debut album Terramoto Richter 6:5 by Nicaraguan producer Alfonso Lovo and re-worked by Brian Jackson (of Gil Scott Heron and Brian Jackson fame).

Originally recorded in 1973 in New Orleans, Terramoto Richter 6:5 was a mix of psychedelic rock, jazz, blues, boogaloo and folk. These new versions are called retouches and I’ve no info on what “retouch” means but it sounds to me like he’s got hold of the original tapes and has remixed and remastered the tracks and also added some extra elements too. The production sounds clearer and cleaner than the original and definitely there’s more low-end weight and top-end clarity. “Terramoto” sounds like there’s a new snare on the 2 and 4 tying it all together and there’s added flute and, I think, keys, from Jackson too.

The result its a pair of excellent alt-club jams for the more discerning DJ. “Terramoto” in particular comes in at 128 bpm, and it’s always good to have something like this in your arsenal, a leftfield slice of freshly polished and fattened Latin psychedelic funk that at the right moment, for the right crowd, could blow up your dance floor.
