Apparel Music is launching a pretty cool seven inch series with two plates released in June and August respectively with a flared-out disco/funk sound. I’m not one for the novelty of the “mystery producer” – plenty of people put on a mask with a new alias all the time without drawing attention to it – but whoever it is they’re doing God’s work on these four tracks creatively titled “MINI001” and “MINI002” from the unknown producer “Apparel Wax.” The b-side of the first 7″ is a super-fine disco/soul instrumental. The A side of “MINI002″ has a crazy sax and stomping groove that I can’t quite place, but it occupies a nice niche in my head and now my record collection.
Make more 7” series. The world needs them.
