Cassy’s new outlet for collaborate projects, Kwench Records, has seen just as much excitement about remix packages that deliver in a way that few streamlined and cut-rate record labels do anymore. An earlier release featuring Cassy & Demuir, “Please Me”, was handed over the Fred P for a series of cracking edits and now the deep and luxurious “You Gotta Know” gets worked over by Chicago’s own Ron Trent. The original is a choice piece of work, muted but powerful, capturing a rhythmic sensuality the way deep house was meant to sound. Ron Trent brings an electrifying energy to the mix: keys that don’t so much play as bloom, like flowers alive and drunk with violent colors. If we had stars I’d have none left after assigning them all here.
