I’m not sure of the format plans for the forthcoming Director’s Cut album which collects some of the best tracks and remixes that Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper made under their production alias, but I hope it follows this 12″ single. Frankie Knuckles simply belongs on vinyl. The man released music on every viable format there was when he was alive, but in appreciating his legacy, all those digital files seem to slip down the funnel and I don’t know if some of them will ever be fished out of that gigantic pile of bytes again.
“Baby Wants To Ride” is about as stone cold as any classic can get, and is presented here with the re-recorded vocals by Jamie Principle in one of the best attempts by FK and Jamie to reclaim their legacy from the scum of Trax Records. On the flip is a never before released edit by Jimmy Edgar who made a remix in tribute after Frankie’s death. It plays up the space electro vibe of the original – it’s slinky, cosmic and above all, fun.
