I’ll be honest, I’ve not done any research to back this up but I think that the world of DJs is probably split into two groups: DJs who would play a sixteen-and-a-half minute spiritual jazz / deep house hybrid epic that moves through lengthy sax and keyboard solos, spacey improvisation sections, and an elongated percussion breakdown, and DJs who wouldn’t. So if you’re one of the DJs who would, then this new project from Joaquin “Joe” Claussell and saxophonist Emanuele Cisi could be for you. It comes in three versions: the Sacred Rhythm Epic Journey is perhaps the most dancefloor friendly, the Alternate Sacred Rhythm journey is a little more jazzy, a little less housey, while the Drummers Dub gives you over ten minutes of, well, sacred rhythms, along with a dubbier take on some of the instrumental sections of the track. It’s highly accomplished, unashamedly jazzy, and splendidly self indulgent, and well worth a listen if the highly accomplished, unashamedly jazzy, and splendidly self-indulgent end of the house music spectrum is where you’re at.
