The fifth installment of the “La Torre Ibiza” compilation series continues to document the sounds championed at Hostel La Torre, lovingly selected and carefully programmed by DJ Pete Gooding and DJ/producer Mark Barrott. It’s a fifteen-track compilation of Balearic music, that most elastic of genres, which in this case includes tropicalia, city pop, UK techno, electronica, film soundtracks, deep house and IDM, mostly for listening rather than the club but with moments of dancefloor action too.

The music is drawn from a wide chronological range, with the earliest track an obscure Nina Simone tune from 1967, the most recent a gorgeous piano and strings jam from 2025 courtesy of co-compiler Barrott, and it comes from Japan, the UK, Brazil, France, and more.

Gooding and Barrott have selected some gorgeous tunes here, there’s not a bad track on the album, and additionally, this compilation manages to do what some of the best compilations do, which is to somehow find sonic links and connections between a wide variety of music, separated by genre, decades, and by oceans. All of these tracks share some kind of common trait or mood, even if it’s difficult to define exactly what that might be, but regardless, it means that when you listen to the whole thing together it becomes more than a collection of individual tracks, but a thing in and of itself, something a little bigger.
