One run round with that swaying melody and you know this song even if you think you don’t. “Inside My Love” is a cover of the incendiary 1975 Minnie Riperton single. Pop songwriting of the ’70s is sometimes remembered as full of playful double entendres (think of the skyrockets in flight of “Afternoon Delight”) but there not much subtlety to “Inside My Love,” a song with a chorus which asks:

You can see inside me
Will you come inside me?
Do you wanna ride inside, my love?

Written by Riperton, Leon Ware and her husband Richard Rudolph, “Inside My Love” is one of the diamond-studded gems of Riperton’s catalog. Makeda Rose does an extraordinary job on the vocals on this cover version. Riperton, who had a five octave vocal range and wasn’t afraid to use it, can be a very tricky artist to cover but Rose shines here. Production is handled by The Echols Brothers and Santonio Echols, and it’s pumping, smoky soulful house music all the way through.

Three remixes are included. MannyWYA drops a deep and utterly enchanting dub mix, with a sun-kissed deep house cut from Orlando Voorn that can’t be beat.
