An ordinary EP from Orlando Voorn could be a greatest hits compilation for anybody else. He’s been posting up his catalog on Bandcamp lately and it’s like looting a rich relative’s liquor cabinet while they’re out of town. Voorn has written more great tracks that I’ve forgotten or even never heard before than most people have made.
This time around he spoils us with three tracks on the new Internal Destination EP, coming in February from Kompakt. Any of these three could anchor an EP on their own. The title track is a wild groove that quickly infiltrates your higher functions and seizes control of the whole body. He spits fire on “Stuck In My Ways” and maybe the title is the best description because it sounds like this could have been lifted off the wax of one of those classics released back in the Summer of ’93. “Ride The Wave” sounds like one of those classic Detroit techno records made without any knowledge of Drum’n’Bass but came organically close to getting down the sound just by intuition. The melodies here are sticky sweet with a steely percussion that drives like a fast car on a long, straight interstate. Whatever this costs it’s a bargain at twice the price.
