Len Faki’s LF RMX series is on its third number, and it’s already one of the most eclectic imprints of its kind. Len calls it a “non-profit platform” – proceeds are donated to the Berlin charity project Strassenkinder e.V. to be used “in actions against child poverty.”
As for the records, these are Len’s edits of a fairly outré selection of techno records. Volume 1 kicked off with DJ Bone’s “Black Patterns” and cast a very bright spotlight on a figure that has often been passed over in discussions about influential producers and DJs. “Deep In” from Stephen Brown took up the second slot, and right now we see a fairly recent (at least in terms of electronic music’s timeline) release get the treatment.
Frankie Bones “Bump Your Head” is a classic, and Len treats it with a refreshing irreverence. The liner notes call what’s going on here Faki’s “signature assault of claps and hats,” and that’s a good way to put it. As with the first in the series, there is also a “Hardspace Tool.” This is a lot like borrowing one of the top DJs’ crate of secret weapons for a weekend and having a go with ’em.
