Stee Downes has recorded tracks for both Lay-Far and Lovebirds; here three of the singular talents in Deep House today come together for a new record announced as surprise on Lovebirds’ Teardrop Recordings. “Lost” doesn’t fit into any commonly defined genre – take N’Dea Davenport and have Dego produce and Mark de Clive-Lowe on keys and you might come close. But the songwriting is Lovebirds’ own: without reaching for cornball trends, these are the kind of polished hooks that transcend fashion.
Lay-Far fattens up Lovebirds’ characteristically minimal production on his Club and Dub remixes. Not sure what I can say about Stee Downes’ performance here that hasn’t been said before; the instrumental might be useful for DJs but it’s a crime against art to remove a Stee Downes’ vocal from any track on which it appears.
