I don’t review many edits in these pages, but this four tracker of dub disco and twisted disco re-works from German producer Lovebirds caught my attention. It’s a belated follow up to 2007’s Vol 1, and you get four tracks, beginning with 103 BPM sultry disco chugger “Reachin'” (and apologies, I’ve no idea what any of the originals that have been re-edited are) which sounds like a late ’70s cut that’s been fattened and dubbed out a little.

There’s a superb pair of mid-tempo disco house sample cut ups “Motion” and “The Sun,” the former a dreamy dub instrumental house full of twinkling arpeggios, the latter an FX-heavy romantic filter-disco jam, and 122 bpm “Run” which is the slickest of the four, a jazz funk flavored disco/boogie tune.

The entire package has a nice balance of dance floor nous, neat production tricks and high end original material, and all adds up to that rare thing, a good edit EP.
