In the Zone is the debut EP from Aural Vision, a vinyl-only label owned by Michele Lamacchia. A man of many guises, his records have appeared here and probably in your crate under names including Rhythm Of Paradise, Gourment de Funk and Nu-Cleo, under which name he released The Outerzone EP on Love Notes from Brooklyn. His music is warm and dreamy, with a fuzzy tone and a love for bumpin’ basslines and tracks and sometimes even techno that you can sing along to.

Most of that applies to “Who Is She,” a dancefloor warmer which loops a 4 syllable sample over sizzling hi hats and a pulsating, fuzzy rhythm. “Gravity (All Nite)” follows the same formula though with body-moving bass and drums like thunder turned way up in the mix. The overall mood here is one of elevation, sometimes of the hands-in-the-MF-air variety, sometimes as on “Gravity” with hypnotic arrangements and heavy grooves.

Nu-Cleo: In The Zone EP (Aural Vision / June 2021 / 12″ Vinyl)
A1. Nu-Cleo: “Who Is She?”
A2. Nu-Cleo: “Spaces & Places”
B1. Nu-Cleo: “Hypnotic Shuffle”
B2. Nu-Cleo: “Gravity (All Nite)”
