Ralph Session & Carla Prather on “You Know You Want To Get Up”

Some tracks are all softness and light and some tracks are all swagger. “You Know You Want To Get Up” has a bassline that will cause a nod in the more restrained and a regal strut in those who aren’t. Ralph Session produced this — the New York City producer has been doing the dirty work for more than a decade and a vocal disco house beatdown like this one is his benediction. With vocals by Chicago’s in-demand singer Carla Prather, “You Know You Want To Get Up” is loaded up on springs — bouncing with a contagious exuberance with the occasional roman candle of disco dust lighting up the night sky.

A pair of remixes come courtesy of Oliver Dollar and Jason Hodges working together (two producers I wouldn’t have guessed knew each other), with strong, almost punishing drums. Actually — true test of good music here — the instrumental is really a choice piece of work too.
