A Record Store Day sensation here: reissued for 2017, Dimitri From Paris‘ scintillating touch-up of four classics from the Salsoul catalog was a surprise in many record stores in April and good luck finding a copy now. His euphoric edit of Loleatta Holloway’s “Love Sensation” is, I think, THE remix if you’re going to play anything made since this was new. There’s a moment of satori here, when the lush orchestration is peeled away until it’s just Loleatta over a skeletal beat. I’m not a superstitious man but if you don’t believe in an afterlife after listening to this, well I think I do. It’s haunting and utterly gorgeous.
There is not a bad track on here – you might guess as much, but it’s probably easier to fuck up a classic everyone knows by heart than it is to do something new and pleasing.
