As we approach the fourth year since their first record bombed out the basements and fogged up the windows, one hoped that the Twirl project helmed by Shaun J. Wright and Alinka wasn’t ephemeral. This record is a welcome assurance that it is not. “Journey Into the Deep” was a 2014 Twirl track that gets revisited by Shaun and Alinka and remixed by Honey Soundsystem’s Justin Cudmore.
The dark electro vibes and spooky aesthetic of the original gets revamped (or re-vamped) for 2018, and then turned out into an acid wonderland by Cudmore in an additional mix. Those dark tones and clicky percussion are used almost like a metronome to set the tone and keep a truly outrageous 303 squelch from going completely off the rails. This is awesome, one of the best acid tracks of 2018.
