Sunship came to UK Garage from making probably the most aggressive muthafuckin’ acid jazz to ever blow smoke haze away at the consciousness kids’ hookah party. Founded by the tireless Ceri Evans of The Brand New Heavies, Sunship had the attitude in place and a musicality that was sometimes breathtaking. Remixes of Craig David (“Fill Me In” and “7 Days” are best known, but there were many more) kept things grounded in danceable club music from which Sunship’s musical genius has never really strayed. “City Life” is pretty much one of any of about a dozen Sunship records that show a versatility and an almost scientific understanding of what stirs the human soul. The Soul Mix still stands up to this day. Sunship is still releasing original music digitally now on their own Sunship Recordings.
