As new hardware offerings proliferate in the market, really unique new products are more rare than ever.
Sonicware‘s offerings are nothing but unique. Their LIVEN line consists of superstrange colorful synths, bass synths, synths for ridiculous specialties like “retro game music” and more. They all bear a family resemblance to one another but like nothing else on the scene.
CyDrums is a further departure, both from the LIVEN faceplate and the look of most other drum machines. Described as “neo-hyperactive drum machine” (Joe should endorse it), CyDrums is a digital drum synthesizer powered by dual wavetable oscillators. Built around an 8 track and 128 step sequencer, CyDrums offers 64 original wavetables, each comprising as many as 256 single-cycle waveforms.
CyDrums gives you full control over start and ending positions, playback directions with modes, speed and curves, and is shipped with 520 presets ready for use. You can store as many as 128 patterns per project.
Though it looks nothing like a Korg Volca, CyDrums is the same sort of miniaturized beat box — it has a vertical orientation and is not much bigger than an open hand.
Sonicware has a unique strategy for launching CyDrums, offering $100 off the $499 retail price for early pre-orders, shipping out in limited quantities to start. Pre-orders for the March shipment are open now.
