DJ Wayne Williams, who has seen more come and go than any of us, once told me that “I love allll my Chicago DJs. Even the ones I don’t like.”

These two guys — Patrick Wayne and DJ Threejay — are solid representatives of what it means to be a Chicago DJ, which is what Wayne Williams was talking about. And they’re taking some giant steps in establishing themselves as producers on an international level.

Jumping out of the mix of their own label, the duo are dropping “Give It To Me” on the roster of Safari Music. There’s a formula and they have it on lock: jackin’ beats, disco vibes and a liberal use of samples, chopped up and put back together again in new forms. I think I know where the vocal sample comes from (but I’m not telling) and they rinse it, bumpering up against a lunatic saxophone cut and a bassline that feels like a spanking. Good old fashioned tracks to beat down for the underground.
