The Clavinet is an electronic clavichord, and you know the sound of one even if you don’t think you do. It’s the signature sound on Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition,” which aside from being a supernova in the universe of funk is virtually a one-man demo of what a genius could do with a Clav.
Rhodes has captured that sound and put it into a box with the gorgeous Clav Pro, a premium plugin joining the traditional instrument maker’s growing portfolio of scrupulously designed digital editions.
The Rhodes Clav Pro is designed from the blueprint of the 1977 Clav D6 model, described by one collector as both “the most popular clavinet and ‘THE’ model to have.” The D6 introduced four tone switches for sound shaping and, in the words of Rhodes, lends the Clav Pro its “unmistakable bite, bounce, and percussive funk of an icon reborn.”
The Clav Pro features integrated speaker and amp simulations, preset management, recreation of the original pickup selection and blending controls, damper slider (a must-have feature for dedicated Clav enthusiasts, allowing muted and plucked Clav tones), adjustable cabinet resonance, dynamic and condenser microphone options. There is also built-in effects processing for Chorus, Phaser, Delay and Reverb effects.
The Clav Pro is available as a VST, AU and AAX plugin and for a premium price: $129.95, available now for $89.95 and with a 14 day trial to see how it stacks up to your other virtual instruments.
