Chicago DJ Gene Hunt is one hell of a conversationalist, and now you can hear him in the refined setting of a university library on November 5, 2014.
The Dance Music Research and Archive Foundation with Chicago State University Library present Preserving The Beats: A Conversation With Chicago House Music Pioneer DJ Gene Hunt. Foundation executive director Charles Matlock will be presiding over the event, which also includes an exhibition of what are being described as “artifacts” being shown all day beginning at 10am.
Curator and Chicago State University Archivist Aaisha Haykal commented in a release that “this exhibition and discussion is pivotal in getting people to understand the importance of House Music in general and specifically its relationship to Chicago’s history. Through the exhibition and the subsequent program we hope to encourage conversation about why documenting and preserving the musical culture of a community and people is so important to understanding the history and lived experiences of them.”
The event also features special guest Robert Williams, founder of the original Warehouse and the Music Box.
The Chicago State University Library is at 9501 South Martin Luther King Drive (Fourth Floor), and the main event will take place from 6pm-9pm on Wednesday November 5.
The event is free but registration is encouraged.
