President Donald Trump lashed out to Goldman Sachs’ tariff forecasts by urging the CEO of the investment bank to either fire the economist responsible or “just focus on being a DJ.”
Solomon utilized his connections and wealth to push a career moonlighting as a DJ and record producer under the name “DJ D-Sol.” He leveraged his position to release an official remix of Whitney Houston as well as to take a gig at Lollapalooza in 2022. After widespread criticism that his night job was interfering with Goldman Sachs’ profitability, Solomon announced in 2023 that he was putting his headphones aside.
In comments posted on his vanity social media site Truth Social, Trump claimed that the millions the country was collecting on tariffs were “incredible for our Country, its Stock Market, its General Wealth, and just about everything else.”

“Bud David Solomon and Goldman Sachs refuse to give credit where credit is due. They made a bad prediction a long time ago on both the Market repercussion and the Tariffs themselves, and they were wrong, just like they are wrong about so much else.
“I think that David should go out and get himself a new Economist or, maybe, he ought to just focus on being a DJ, and not bother running a major Financial Institution.”
Trump did not indicate who he wants Solomon to fire, but apparently was referring to the bank’s chief economist who wrote in a note released on Sunday that US consumers will wind up paying a larger cost of the tariffs being imposed by Trump’s trade wars.
