Ornaments cuts some pretty vinyl and Carlos Nilmmns sure does put some pretty music on it. Label and artist have a long and fruitful relationship – I think Nilmmns may actually have more records in Ornaments rarefied catalog than anyone else. He’s been averaging about a record every year, including 2017’s Heebie Jeebies, 2016’s Midnight Chronicles, 2014’s Get By Me, and 2013’s Cupid & Psyche.
And he packs the beats tight on his latest EP for Ornaments, Iris: seven tracks, leading off with a new classic in “Copa.” A blend of elements that should not go together – of stripped down house, boisterous funk and Salsoul-with-strings – it sets the tone for an adventurous EP:
