The first chunk of disco funk from Dimitri From Parishighly anticipated Chic Remix compilation is out. A hand-stamped white label appeared in selected shops and boxes this week featuring a double-header of Dimitri’s remixes of Chic’s “Le Freak” and Sister Sledge’s “Thinking Of You.” And the remixes are phenomenal.

Tom Moulton often mentions The Trammps’ “Disco Inferno” as a near perfect song. In a similar way, Chic’s “Le Freak” has made the cultural journey from defining a (once much-maligned) era to transcending it. The song has been used in countless soundtracks and spots that have nothing to do with disco. This September marks the 40th anniversary of a song that was devised, according to Nile Rogers, when legendary Chic bassist Bernard Edwards was turned away at the door of Studio 54, and Dimitri makes it come alive again.

This limited white label promo is available on wax now from the usual places, and features Dimitri’s remixes of Chic’s “Le Freak” and Sister Sledge’s “Thinking Of You” alongside instrumental remixes. The full Dimitri From Paris presents Le Chic Remix is expected on June 8 2018 from Glitterbox Recordings. (Tracklisting & more info on the full release here.)
