Spoiler: this 1994 track doesn’t come from Detroit, and this isn’t the group behind the 1984 electro classic “Invasion From The Planet Detroit” (who I don’t think were from Detroit either). I believe it’s by Fionn Anthony aka Fionn Lucas, who released a slew of records on the razor’s edge between clubby Jersey garage and UK Garage in the 1990s, most notably on Nice’N’Ripe affiliate Zest 4 Life. (I get the feeling that there’s a great story here if someone in the UK would pursue it.)

This five track EP leans more toward the classic Jersey sound, with a vocal and pumpin’ bassline evocative of Romanthony at his clubbiest. Big love for that. The five tracks all have different names but are basically remixes of one track, or at least based around the same samples as the others. Grant Nelson‘s crew cleaned this up for a digital release some years ago and there it remains buried on an anonymous page on Traxsource, one of those uncut gems of the ’90s waiting to be loved up again.
