Bicep: Aura

"Aura" manages to capture both an emotional restraint and an emotional release and a feeling of tension between them. Also: you can fuck a speaker to it.

Someone probably keeps a list of the best unreleased tracks circulating among the top jocks, and for what seems like an eternity this track (often just listed as “Unreleased Bicep”) was at the top of it.

No more. As a teaser for their album on Ninja Tune, Bicep pulled this monster out of their secret stash and are letting everyone take a drag and pass it around.

“Aura” is a nearly flawless tune, straddling a line between Detroit, Chicago and Amsterdam, Techno and House and loving the friction it makes. This was allegedly an accident of studio experimentation, but manages to capture both an emotional restraint and an emotional release and a feeling of tension between them. Also: you can fuck a speaker to it.

I’ve always felt a little uncomfortable around album hype, particularly with electronic albums. I think Bicep’s forthcoming LP is going to go over big. “Aura” already has.
